There is still time!! Join Havurahniks of every age at two Purim Celebrations!

March 6, 2012

Although Registrations for the Adult Purim are closed. Walk-ins are allowed. Please join us and you can pay athe door (cash only)!

Spring is just around the corner and that means Purim is coming our way! Time to get goofy and spoofy.

Havurah Shalom has two great events planned for this wild holiday. One for families at Havurah and one for ADULTS ONLY! Read on and join us for one or both!

Havurah Shalom Purim Celebration for Families: Wednesday: March 7: 5:30-7:00 pm

at Havurah Shalom. All ages welcome!

Please join us as we make fools of ourselves and recall some wisdom of our ancestors. Costumes, singing, and a special Purim Shpiel (A kid-friendly rendition of the Purim story with lots of laughs and audience participation), and a guest appearance by Havurah’s own Middle School Meddlers.

Pot-luck Finger Foods: Please bring yummy finger foods that we can eat without doing dishes: Veggies, cheese, crackers, dips, baked goods, fruit, nutsThis is NOT dinner, so you may want to feed your family beforehand.

Hamentashen Bake-Off: Calling all bakers! Do you favor apricot filling? Prune, poppyseed, Nutella? We love ‘em all and there’s never too many. Please bring a batch to share. Our distinguished panel of judges will award prizes to the best.  Or just bring some hamantashen to share and don’t be judged!

Noise-making: Although we won’t have a complete reading of the Megilla, there will be plenty of opportunities to drown out the name of you-know-who. Like last year, we’re supporting the Community Warehouse by asking folks to bring new or used pots and pans, spatulas, wooden spoons, and silverware (especially forks and knives) to bang as noisemakers (then we’ll donate them)

Costumes: Raid the dress-up box and parental closet (no need to buy something!)

PLEASE RSVP by March 2  with your family names, ages of any children, and whether you are bringing hamantashen.

Looking for something a little bit more risque????

Purim Ball for Adults ONLY: Wednesday March 7 at 8:00 pm:

ONLINE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE

Are you tired of conceding Purim to children?  Want to party just like we used to in Shushan?   Let’s take it to a rock-out venue on Wednesday night, March 7th, the 14th of Adar  at 8:00 pm. Dance to the live music of “Haley’s Planet”  at the Bossanova Ballroom, 722 E. Burnside.

Wear glitter or a mask. Dress like Esther or Vashti – or like one of the many eunuchs in the story.  Whatever you do, don’t stand outside the gates of the palace.  Join the fun!

We’ll charge $10.00 for you to dance to, and we’ll give 20% of that to the Lift Urban Portland (Formerly Northwest Portland Ministries) Food Bank.  It’s a mitzvah to give matanot la-evyonim , gifts to the poor, on Purim – so there’s another reason to get in on the action.

Not Your Father’s Purim:  An X-Rated 2012 Shpiel With Cocktails is not to be missed either, so order a babysitter now, and challenge the sentiment that Purim is for kids.  All this and more at the Bossanova Ballroom just waiting for you to celebrate what really came down in King Ahashveros’ court.  Biblical boogaloo.

RSVP right away. Send in your check with the names of those attending or register online!
