He will set a context and answer some of the questions we have posed that have to do with how rabbinic culture in the first several centuries orresponded to realities on the ground in Judea and Babylonia. In specific, what were the real and imagined relationships between Jews and non-Jews? Who cared about these things? Since the conference room downtown is small, we are limiting this session to only Tamud students past and present. Please contact the office for location. Location: Offsite Talmud Lite

Event: Tu B’shvat Hike and Feast
When: Sun, Feb 5 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Description: IF you haven’t already RSVPed for our Tu B’shvat Hike and Feast, please see information below. We are looking for an alternative site fairly close to Havurah since the Macleay Park trail washed out. We will send all those that RSVPed the updated plan and directions. Tu’Bshvat (Birthday of the Trees) is our traditional way of saying we have faith that Spring will come, even if the signs of it are faint and we know important growth is going on deep within even when we can’t see it. Come celebrate with a little hike and walk and a feast of fruits and nuts that we enjoy from our trees. We will gather at 10:30 and walk as far as we determine to be enjoyable. Then, we’ll walk back down to a shelter in the park for a story and feast on the various fruits and nuts and other snacks that folks bring. You can pass on the invitation to others who might want to join us (grandparents, friends). We will send out directions on where to meet and what to do if there is bad weather after the RSVP deadline. Please bring one of the traditional 7 species (something with wheat, barley, figs, grapes, pomegranates, olives, honey) and some other fruit or nut. This gathering is for all ages and please feel free to hike as far as you want. Location: Location TBA Event: Mah Jongg
When: Sun, Feb 5 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Description: Please join us for Mah Jongg. Bring your card and snack to share. Teaching Table available on this day. Tu B’shvat Hike and Feast

Event: Valentine’s Day
When: Tue, Feb 14 Event: MA’AGAL – Circling Around, Forming a Spiritual Circle
When: Tue, Feb 14 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm Description: This is an opportunity for people who have become aware of deep spiritual questions, and seek a circle in which we can all zero in on what really counts. Often, these questions arise when we least expect them to, in the middle of the night or when the kids have grown up and we find ourselves most alone. Our societal preference for producing answers flies in the face of what’s most basically Jewish: wilderness, wonderment, and humility. While building trust and familiarity, we will pay attention to rhythms that don’t often get reflected in services or within the holiday cycle. What will count most is candor, good humor, and quiet listening. Taught by Rabbi Joey Wolf. Ongoing attendance mandatory. Non-members: 0.00. Register by October 3. Valentine’s Day
