Havurah Cemetery Committee presents ” Annual Clean-Up and Open House” on May 15
May 9, 2011
In the past several months, the Havurah Cemetery Committee has doubled in size and revitalized itself as the needs of our community have increased with regards to end-of-life issues. Therefore, we are now providing family support with funerals, burials, and shiva minyans. If you are interested in helping our Havurah families with these needs, we welcome your help and support. This is an important component to being part of a caring community for one another.
On our calendar, please note that the “Cemetery Spring Clean-Up and Open House” has been changed to Sunday, May 15, from 10:00 a.m. – Noon. Come out and tour our beautiful cemetery, meet the committee and have your questions answered about burial and funeral planning, and help tidy up, clean stones, prune and fertilize the hedges. As always, the more the merrier!
Some good news to report is that we have finally resolved the issues with “double-deep burials.” If you need more information, please contact the committee. With regards to “green burial,” we are presently working with Metro on this, and will give you an update within the next couple of months.
Last but not least, the Cemetery Committee will be hosting a “Training and Orientation Session” on Sunday, June 5th at 9:00 am at Havurah Shalom to help committee members better serve the needs of our congregation. If you are interested in coming on board and getting involved, this would be a good time to do so, as well as a great opportunity.
2011 Song of Miriam Award: Havurah Shalom Honors Fran Berg
May 3, 2011
Each year, the Jewish Women’s Roundtable invites Jewish organizations in our community to participate in their annual volunteer recognition day for Jewish Women. Essentially, we come together to honor women who have “made a difference” in the Jewish community bycontributing time and energy through their various volunteer efforts.
This year, Havurah is very proud to announce and recognize one of its long-time members, Fran Berg, as the recipient of the 19th Annual Song of Miriam Award. As many of you know, Fran has been very dedicated to Havurah by serving on numerous committees, her involvement in multiple programs, and organizing countless events.
Most recently, Fran stepped up as Auction Committee Co-Chair to spearhead the “Chai Ho!” Havurah Auction and Round Up 2011 this year. She answered the call toassist with this major biennial fundraiser for Havurah. In addition, she has been active in Shabbat School, the B’nai Mitzvah Committee, the Transition Project, among other programs and activities. Fran is a model example of a member who embodies the deeply-held values of Havurah.
Please join us in celebrating Fran by attending the 19th Annual “Song of Miriam” Awards Brunch on Sunday, June 5, 10:00 a.m., at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. Registration and event information is available here.
“Thanks again for your outstanding service to Havurah, Fran!”
