Havurah Auction Chooses Western-Themed Gala: “Chai Ho!”
January 25, 2011
Strap on your spurs and fasten on those chaps, it’s time to start thinking about this year’s fundraising gala:
“Chai Ho! Havurah Auction and Round-up 2011,” slated for Sunday, April 10, 2011.
The western-themed auction and “round-up” builds upon the work of Operation Reconnect, Havurah
Shalom’s ambitious re-visioning project aimed at improving how our congregation serves its members, how our members serve each other, and how we help heal the world.
The evening’s festivities begin at 4:30 p.m., at Havurah, 825 NW 18th Avenue, Portland, 97209. There will be a silent auction, followed by a live auction. All evening there will be delicious “grub” and “rootin’ tootin” entertainment. In addition to a “bonanza” of amazing goods and services, you can throw your cowboy hat in the ring for a great raffle prize: an Apple I-Pad and some special accessories.
The Auction Committee is working on a webpage for registration and donations. Tickets for the event are: Rancher: $54, Wrangler: $36, or Buckaroo: $18. Raffle tickets are $10/each or three for $25. This year, you can purchase your tickets online (or donate if you cannot attend but want to support the auction).
To whet your whistle for hoisting those auction paddles, here are a couple of the great items up for early bidding: A three-night stay (Feb 25-27, 2011) at Inn at Otter Crest on the Oregon coast in Lincoln City. A second stay is for four nights (Feb 28 – March 3, 2011). The three night stay starting price is $300 and the four night visit starts at $350. If you are interested in bidding on these items, go to the Havurah page on the website: www.biddingforgood.com. Register and become an on-line bidder!
Another item, already secured is a pair of Portland Symphony tickets. These tickets are also found on www.biddingforgood.com/havurahshalom
The Auction Committee still needs volunteers to help with procurement and to serve on the food
committee. If you are interested in helping, contact the Havurah office. Click here for the auction form.
Stay tuned for more exciting details as we get closer to the Chai Ho! Havurah Auction and Round-up 2011.

Havurah’s “Bring in the Light” Chanukah Celebration 2010
January 11, 2011
Spearheaded by our very own, Deborah Eisenbach-Budner, Havurah’s Education Director, some 275 members of all ages gathered for the festivities at this year’s Chanukah celebration. After Havdalah, we lit Chanukah candles, sang songs, played dreidel games, and assembled to watch The Jewish Theatre Collaborative’s holiday performance which brought smiles to many faces.
A beautiful holiday buffet dinner was enjoyed by all afterwards as we filled our bellies with delicious latkes lovingly prepared by our members. Our “First Annual Latke Bakeoff,” an event judged by a select group of our ‘wise” elders, was met with a lot of fun as judges awarded prizes for Best Taste, Best Texture, and Best Overall.
