L’Dor V’Dor! Celebrate Shabbat with members of every generation! Friday, November 4, 6:00 pm

October 26, 2011

Join your Havurah family for the first of four Dorot Friday night ‘Short & Sweet’ Shabbat Services and Potluck
Friday, November 4th at 6:00 pm
Services: 6:00 pm
Potluck: 6:45 pm

What: A casual, multi-generational, music-filled service with candle lighting, singing, stories and prayer.  Services are followed by a potluck, vegetarian dinner.

Why: Dorot Shabbat grew out of a desire to draw together the different generations of our community in a service that specifically involves children, while also incorporating the prayers of a Shabbat evening service to which adults connect.

Who: Initiated and led by congregants with young families, throughout the year we are sometimes joined by Rabbi Joey, and guitar and mandolin playing musicians Emily Gottfried and Scott Snyder.   Please join us–whether you’re 3 or 83 or somewhere in between!

Please RSVP  and let us know if you will bring a main dish or a salad/side dish and dessert. You are invited to bring wine/juice to celebrate Shabbat.

For more information and to participate in services, please contact Lisa  Cordova.

We live in a world besieged with problems: poverty, sickness, war, oppression of the weak and the other, degradation of the environment. Jewish tradition tells us that we are not expected to solve the world’s problems, but we are obligated to continue to seek justice, to engage in work that promotes tikkun olam, repair of the world.   How can we best do this work?   How do we choose a focus for our work?
What can we do as a community to sustain each other in this difficult work?  Does it matter that we work together as a community?

Through reflection and discussion we can explore  these important questions. Please join us on October 28th when we come together to share a meal and celebrate Shabbat.
