DESCRIPTION:That which is written in our Siddur\, prayerbook\, is an important piece of Jewish prayer but it is only part of the picture. What about the myriad of other personal utterances\, yearnings\, requests\, praises that did not make it into the prayerbook? What about other forms of Avodah\, devotion/worship\, which Jews have created? Together we will open ourselves up to some core questions: What are the relationships between humans\, the world\, divinity\, the rest of nature? How do we talk to and about that which we don?t understand? How do we call forth our best human selves? How do we come to give thanks\, feel reverence and abundance? Why ?pray?\, anyways? We will study a variety of expressions of Jewish ?prayer? in English\, including some familiar and some lesser known texts. \n\nInstructor: Deborah Eisenbach-Budner. \n\nRegister by January 20.\n
